Today, my family and I went for a walk around the nearby Duke Gardens. It is a stunning time of year for such a visit. The flowers are in full bloom so the air is intoxicating with the different smells from all of them. Every time the wind would blow, you’d catch whiff of something new. The folks who take care of this 55 acre garden are masters of their craft. No matter the time of year, it always looks immaculate. I’ve read that this is one of the nation’s best gardens. It’s nice living only 45 minutes away.
Nikon D600 w/ Nikon 50mm f/1.4. Both shots I had the camera in Aperture Priority mode. I’m totally diggin’ the 50mm f/1.4. I’ve owned the 1.8 version of the 50mm and many different constant-2.8-zooms but none of them have the feel of this lens. It’s not just the shallower depth of field either. Somehow, it manages to be razor sharp and buttery soft all at once. I’ve owned some spectacularly sharp lenses in the past and they seemed to add a harshness to everything. Whatever the magic is here, I’m happy.
